Here's the view of our freshly shoveled front walk. I must say, the snow certainly makes it feel a lot more like Christmas. Well, that and the pine-scented candle I've had burning all day in the living room.

In case you can't tell, Bryan is holding a 12-inch ruler to illustrate just how much snow we got. By our calculation, we got about 14 inches.
We haven't had any snow since we moved into our new house, so we don't own a snow shovel or any other snow removal equipment. Unless you count the broom -- and yes, Bryan does. We thought perhaps the broom wouldn't cut it for the forecast storm of the milennium, so Bryan went over to Home Depot Friday night before the snow even started to grab a shovel. Not only were they sold out, there was a mob forming in the parking lot, waiting for the shipment that was rumored to be arriving sometime that evening. Suffice it to say, we still don't own a snow shovel. There's a guy who goes door to door in our neighborhood doing odd jobs like raking leaves, shoveling snow, etc. When he knocked on our door after the snow stopped, Bryan gratefully hired him to shovel our walk and driveway. On the plus side, he did a great job clearing everything off. On the minus side, we probably won't be able to use our dumpsters for the rest of the winter.
Can you believe how much snow? Feels like we're back in Idaho or Utah.
In typical DC snow hysteria fashion, church was canceled today, so we had a long, luxuriously relaxing day at home eating junk food. We had our suspicions that church might be canceled, so on our way home from Avatar yesterday, we stopped at the grocery store to stock up on a ridiculous amount of junk food. What a great day. We just got a breaking news alert that the federal government is closed tomorrow. Congress doesn't always follow the rest of the federal government, but I'd say it's pretty darn likely that we'll have another day to polish off that junk food. Keep in mind that it has been bright and sunny all day today without a bit of snow fall -- but hey, who am I to complain about a free day off?
