Deep fried (fill in the blank)

For a few months now, Bryan has been obsessed with the idea that we need to deep fry our turkey on Thanksgiving.  I think we can probably trace it back to our trip to the Iowa State Fair this summer, where we ate deep fried everything -- oreos, snickers, red velvet funnel cake, twinkies, and, of course, BUTTER.

I was fine with deep frying our turkey, and I had but one request: don't burn our house down.  Bryan did a lot of research and found the perfect solution.  A few clicks on Amazon, and our very own Butterball Indoor Turkey Fryer was on its way.

After it arrived, it was clear that we would have to test it out before the big day.  And it turns out it's a good thing we did, because the fryer we got initially was a dud.  Fast forward a couple of days, and our new turkey fryer is here.  So we had to decide what to make for the first frying experience.  It didn't take us long to decide.  Ever since we went to the Homestead last spring, we've thought about the dessert we had at this dinner.  Freshly fried donuts with strawberries and whipped cream.  What better way to christen the new fryer than to relive that glorious night?
We used refrigerated biscuit dough, and cut holes in the center

Peanut oil heating up

At this point, they do not look very appetizing

A few short minutes later, and voila!

Oh, sweet, delicious fresh donuts...
The donuts were AMAZING.  Next up:  fried chicken!

Pretty sure you just ruined my day because I know it won't include any homemade donuts or strawberries or whipped cream! (I will have to come up with some sort of consolation prize.)
