Reasons For My Absence

I've been meaning to blog for weeks now and have been waiting for certain developments to take place in order to have something to blog about. Let me give you examples...

I intended to blog about my weight-loss adventures, but due to the recent Snowmageddon that kept me and the wife in the house for basically a week straight, those efforts hit a snag. I began my participation in Weight Watchers by losing six pounds in the first two weeks. But, after a week of being snowed in with little more than food to keep me company, I regressed somewhat. I'm not even sure what my weight is now, I only know that I'm frustrated enough not to devote a whole blog post to it. Alas, I have recommitted myself and shall blog on these matters more regularly from here on out.

Another reason I've been blogless of late is the fact that we've gone weeks without a decent movie release. Seriously, what's the deal with January and February that makes movie studios dump all their unwatchable crap into the laps of filmgoers at that time? Now, I won't lie, there have been a couple movies that have tempted me in recent weeks -- The Book of Eli and Edge of Darkness -- but they got lackluster reviews, which tempered my interest and made it more difficult to convince the wife to waste a perfectly good evening on one of them.

Over the last several weeks, we've seen two movies in the theater. The first was Young Victoria, which was a cruddy period piece that never really decides what it's going to be about. Is it about the independence of Queen Victoria? Is it about the love story between Victoria and Prince Albert? Is it boring? I was only able to answer the last question (the answer is "yes"). I rate it **.

The other movie we saw was The Blind Side, the decent sports movie which has inexplicably become a major Oscar movie. All in all, it was enjoyable, uplifiting story that falters only near the end when it decided that it had to invent a conflict to be quickly resolved by main characters. But, Best Picture? Really? Also, while she was pleasantly enjoyable in the lead role, Sandra Bullock's performance has been overrated to an unfathomable extent. I rate it ***.

Anyway, something happened today that I'll blog about here in a minute in a different post. But, I have to say that, for the most part, the last few weeks have been pretty uneventful, leading to a dearth of blog topics.

Sorry.

It's not just from this book but a person can find the information readily elsewhere that all the visual stimulation from excess illumination is preventing good or adequate sleep. The development of obesity due to hormonal and neurotransmitter dysregulation is not breaking news.

Or to that damn Mack Downalds.

Bryan, I think your confusion about the nominations of "The Blind Side" and Ms. Bullock here just cement the fact that 2010 was largely one of the lousiest years for movies since... well... 2009.

Wait, what I meant was that 2009 was the lousiest year for movies since 2008.

BTW, Bryan, I saw "Edge of Darkness" and it was actually pretty good. Not amazing, but worth seeing.
